Article Review:
J.W. Thompson's "Be Submissive to Your Masters'
A Study of 1 Peter 2:18-25"
Offered by DN.
James W. Thompson’s most helpful contribution to our questions is his
emphasis on the imitation theme. For 1 Peter, slaves are members of a
household, not merely a social class. Thus the description of their
station as an imitation of Christ’s redemptive suffering, brings
Christology directly to our living rooms, so to speak. When we as a
household enter “into fellowship with Him, [we] enter a fellowship of
which this suffering is the basis. [Our] very life is henceforth founded
on His suffering, which is now a component part of [our] lives.”
